Drone technology is an intelligent aviation system centered around the flight control system, integrating modules such as sensors, communication, and navigation. It consists of three major subsystems: power propulsion, attitude control, and environmental perception, and utilizes intelligent algorithms to achieve path planning and real-time obstacle avoidance.This system has been applied on a large scale in fields such as agricultural crop protection, surveying and exploration, emergency rescue, railway inspection, power line inspection, petrochemical pipeline detection, and drone logistics. Among these, annual agricultural crop protection operations exceed 2.6 billion mu (approximately 173.3 million hectares), creating a 13 billion yuan market for aerial spraying services. Additionally, a three-dimensional prevention and control network has been established in the field of maritime fishery law enforcement.
As of 2021, China's civilian drone market reached 86.9 billion yuan. Leveraging university-enterprise cooperation and the "1+X" certification system, a technical talent cultivation system has been established, training over 120,000 certified drone pilots. In 2025, new CAAC license training and vocational skill level certification were introduced, and the Yellow River Basin Drone Pilot Vocational Skills Competition was held. In the railway sector, drones are used for power supply equipment inspection, emergency command, and disaster monitoring, while AI and drone technologies are employed to restore sections of the Great Wall. In the military technology cooperation domain, a new type of international collaboration has emerged, with Poland and Ukraine negotiating the provision of specific drone and missile technologies to Poland.
The UK will introduce an undergraduate degree program to cultivate the next generation of drone warfare experts. The program will span three years, starting in September 2025.
